“One of the finest examples of our local Indian community working together to provide an extremely valuable service for all of us.”
A free seminar for the Indian community about end of life medical choices, religious services, cremation, legal issues, and financial planning.
With the rapid growth of the Indian population in the United States, and more specifically the number of aged parents and relatives it has become evident that we need comprehensive information to properly help with the passing of loved ones.
The first step in dealing with the great need in our community is a free seminar modeled after similar seminars hosted by the Catholic Church and other religious organizations throughout the country.
As a Indian you’re exposed to sacred texts, such as the Bhagavad-Gita, that reveal the temporary nature of life in this world, the eternal nature of the atma (soul) and the spiritual realm beyond this world.
Still the inevitable passing away of a loved one is naturally a time of upset and grief. By having this information beforehand and plans in place families can avoid added grief and confusion at an already very difficult time.
Each seminar features a volunteer team of local Indian clergy, financial advisors, attorneys, hospice directors, and mortuary executives to answer your essential questions such as:
- What to do and whom to call if your loved one passes away?
- How do you know if your estate plan was prepared properly?
- What happens when you contact a funeral home for a cremation?
- Are your assets invested wisely and are they safe?
- What are your options for a family member who becomes terminally ill?
- How does a family member’s immigration status effects tax, estate, and Social Security issues?
- How is hospice care different than being in a hospital?
As you can see the topics covered are not just for the elderly, retired members of our community. Whatever your age, the sooner you have solid answers to these questions and plans in place, the more secure you and your family will feel.
Unfortunately most of us procrastinate when it comes to these important areas of our lives. The beauty of the seminar is that you can get all the information in one place, in a few short hours.
This free seminar is solely for disseminating information. There is no solicitation for business, nor is anything sold. The professionals involved see it as an opportunity to give back to their community. All of the speakers are volunteering their time, energy, and knowledge.
Words of Wisdom and Comfort from the Bhagavad-gita:
“As the embodied soul continually passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. The self-realized soul is not bewildered by such a change.” (2.13)
“For the soul there is never birth nor death. Nor, having once been, does he ever cease to be. He is unborn, eternal, ever existing, undying and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.” (2.20)
“And whoever, at the time of death, quits his body, remembering Me alone, at once attains My nature. Of this there is no doubt.” (8.5)
“Always think of Me and become My devotee. Worship me and offer your homage unto Me. Thus you will come to Me without fail. I promise you this because you are My very dear friend.” (18.65)
